Sharing details of 168 schemes in which 30 departments of the UP government have remitted money through DBT to beneficiaries under centrally sponsored and state sponsored schemes, senior UP officials told News18 that now More than Rs 2.93 lakh crore has been transferred till now.

Senior state government officials in Lucknow told News18 that Uttar Pradesh will soon transfer a record Rs 3 lakh crore to nearly nine crore beneficiaries directly into their bank accounts in Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Sharing details of 168 schemes in which 30 departments of the UP government have remitted money through DBT to beneficiaries under centrally sponsored and state sponsored schemes, senior UP officials told News18 that now 2.93 lakh crore have been transferred till now. This has helped reduce leakages in government schemes and people are getting money without having to pay any deductions or commissions.

About Rs 8,100 crore has been transferred to about 4.3 lakh people in UP under the Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana Grameen to help people get their own houses. It is a state sponsored scheme. About Rs 1,100 crore has been transferred to about 1.64 crore MGNREGA beneficiaries in the state. Another Rs 580 crore has been disbursed to around 5.38 lakh beneficiaries of the state scheme for giving scholarships to meritorious students in the general category.

More than Rs 215 crore has been given as pre-matric and post-matric scholarships to 3.38 lakh students under the scheme of the State Department of Minority Welfare. An additional Rs 1,202 crore has been distributed to around 1.5 lakh students as part of the central scheme for post-matric scholarships for OBC students. Details with News18 reveal that the UP government has disbursed Rs 2,300 crore as ‘widow pension’ to 3 million beneficiaries through DBT under a state scheme of the UP government’s women’s welfare department. .

The largest DBT transfer in UP has been under the Centre’s Swachh Bharat Mission program with around Rs 1.08 lakh crore being transferred to beneficiaries who received money to build toilets in their homes free of charge. Since 2017, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given special attention to the DBT scheme as directed by the Centre.

At the central level as well, UP is among the best performing states on the DBT front and was ranked No. 2 on DBT performance behind Haryana in 2022-23. Data shows that in the last financial year, UP transferred over Rs 27,000 crore through DBT in around 30 crore transactions.
