Vishal Bhardwaj says Shah Rukh Khan sang ‘La Ilhaj’ on phone, wanted it for himself

Vishal Bhardwaj explains how Shah Rukh Khan reacted to Darlings song.

Vishal Bhardwaj shared that Shahrukh Khan called him around 12-12.30 pm and started singing the song over the phone.

Alia Bhatt’s Darlings team recently launched the film’s song La Ilhaj on Tuesday, August 2. During the event, musician Vishal Bhardwaj said that the film’s co-producer Shah Rukh Khan liked the track so much that he sang it. Make it a phone call to Composer. He said, “Shah Rukh called me one night around 12-12.30 am. He started singing the song over the phone. He sang the whole song. Then he started explaining the meaning… He said ‘ If this song was for me, it would have been more fun’.

Bhardwaj added that it felt great to be appreciated by Shah Rukh Khan. “I felt great… He is the producer of the film. He heard the song, called and praised. That’s what we, artistes, want in our lives. All we want is appreciation.”

Lailaj is a soul stirring song penned by Gulzar, composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and sung by Arijit Singh. Talking about the song, he added, “Darlings is a unique film that deals with a range of strong and delicate emotions – and the film’s songs had to emulate the same. With La Ilhaj, we did something lively. and tried to create something fresh and I hope it resonates with the audience. It has been a wonderful experience collaborating with Alia Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions, Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix to bring this tune to life.

Darlings is also Alia Bhatt’s first film as a producer. The actress co-produced the film with Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment. The film also stars Vijay Varma, Shefali Shah and Roshan Mathew. Darlings will release on Netflix on August 5.
