US forces arrested a senior ISIS leader known as a bomb maker during an operation in Syria on Thursday.
The US-led coalition against Islamic State, Operation Enrique Resollo, said the operation did not harm any civilians or damage allied aircraft or assets.
“The mission was planned to minimize the risk of mutual harm, especially any potential harm to civilians,” the coalition said. Said in a statement.
The identity of the ISIS leader, who has been described as “one of the group’s leading leaders in Syria,” has not been released. Further details about the operation were not immediately available.
“Coalition forces will continue to search for ISIS remnants wherever they may be hiding to ensure their eternal defeat,” said Operation Enrique Resolu.
In February, ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi blew himself up, killing his wife and two children when US special forces attacked the Syrian village of Atma.
In October 2019, ISIS leader and mastermind Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi detonated a suicide vest, killing himself and his three children, and wounding a U.S. military dog while the soldiers were in a compound in Syria. Have entered Two U.S. soldiers were also injured in the attack.
