Home plate umpire Nate Tomlinson escaped serious injury after being hit in the face by Mike Trout’s broken bat in Monday’s ninth innings against Los Angeles. Los Angeles Dodgers Game (LAD 2, LAA 0) According to USA Today. Tomlinson was taken to hospital with cuts on his eyes and nose.

The steel image is deceptive and the bat seems to have landed directly on Tomlinson’s face. The broken bat was actually spinning, and it bit Tomlinson’s face. Trout was initially reluctant to flee to the first base after realizing what had happened. Here is the video:

“In the mask, the broken part of the bat, which was really scary.” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told The Athletic after the game. “I’ve heard he hit her nose, Nate. And that’s, I think, the best scene. A very scary moment.”

Tomlinson was addicted to blood and the other twenty umpire Laz Diaz took over the rest of the game behind the plate. Tomlinson, 31, made his MLB debut in 2020 and came to his credit with 20 major league games of his career this season.
