Veteran Tamil actor Captain Vijayakanth, who later became a politician, married Premlatha in 1990 and they have two children together, Vijay Prabhakaran and Shanmoghapandian. Younger son Shanmoghapandian has become an actor in the Tamil film industry following his father’s footsteps. The elder son, Vijay Prabhakaran, is a businessman and politician. He participates in various activities of Desiya Merpuku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), a political organization formed by his father Vijayakanth.
In December 2019, Vijay Prabhakaran got engaged to Keerthana, daughter of Elango, a Coimbatore-based businessman, in a low-key affair in the presence of close friends and relatives. Her father Vijaykanth could not attend the engagement ceremony due to ill health.
However, even after two and a half years of engagement, the couple is yet to tie the knot and speculations are rife among the film industry as well as Vijaykanth’s fans about delaying the wedding. According to reports, their wedding plans were delayed several times due to the coronavirus that broke out a few months after their engagement. Also, Vijayakanth is reportedly eagerly waiting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s availability to officiate the wedding. According to reports, the Prime Minister is busy and has not been able to allocate dates yet.
While some reports claim that the wedding is likely to take place this year, Vijayakantha’s family has not revealed any details about it.
Vijayakanth has been facing health problems for a long time and is mostly confined to his home. However, they keep an eye on the political developments in the state and express their strong views on social media platforms. Earlier this year, the veteran actor had to have his toe amputated after blood flow to the toe of his right leg was obstructed due to high sugar levels. However, he recovered quickly and was discharged from the hospital within a week.
