The Concurrent List contains subjects of common interest to both the Union and the States. Both Parliament and State Legislatures can legislate on subjects which are in the Concurrent List.
Union Minister Nityananda Rai said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the government has no plans to bring the census to the concurrent list and allow state governments to conduct the census. Rai, Union Minister of State for Home also said that Census 2021 and related field activities have been postponed indefinitely due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020.
“There is no such proposal,” Rai replied to a question from Tamil Nadu DM MP Ravi Kumar D, who asked whether the census should be brought to the concurrent list and allow state governments to conduct the census.
