Joramajara said that the VC had all the powers to rectify the issues but still did not do so. While he was encouraging Bahadur to lie down on the bed, some of the people accompanying the minister lifted the mattress to talk.
The minister’s actions did not go down well as many pointed out that the VC is a famous doctor in charge of university and college affairs and such matters are seen as “low level”.
In a statement, the Punjab branch of the IMA said it was “deeply saddened by the disgraceful act” and asked the chief minister to “intervene and apologize to the minister”. “Otherwise, the IMA will consider taking drastic action to restore the prestige and dignity of the medical community,” IMA state president Dr Paramjit Singh Mann said in a statement.
The Indian Ortho Association has also condemned the incident.
