The IIM Bangalore professor received the ICMR-Professor Surendra Mohan Marwah Award for research work on ageing, geriatric care.

Professor Ugargol, Chairperson of the Post Graduate Program in Enterprise Management, has received an award for his research work in the field of ‘Ageing and Geriatric Care in India’.

ICMR-Professor Surendra Mohan Marwah Award was instituted in 1993 by Prof. Surendra Mohan Marwah, Varanasi. This award is given to a scientist for research work done in the field of germplasm.

The award also includes a certificate with e-references from the Indian Council of Medical Certificates (ICMR). About Dr. Ugargol’s research, ICMR says: “His research on aging and geriatric care enables academic understanding of demographic transitions: it addresses care needs, identifies barriers to care. , examines the resilience of family intergenerational contracts, bridging the ‘care gap.’

Dr. Ugergol holds a PhD in Demography from the University of Groningen (RUG) in the Netherlands. Dr. Ugurgol is a public health pro-academic, a social epidemiologist, and an applied demographer with significant research interests in health policy, health systems, epidemiology, health and hospital services, aging, and health care management. Has practical experience and research interests. His line of research crosses the interdisciplinary intersection of demography, public health, gerontology and healthcare management by combining quantitative and interpretive approaches. His research topics include ageism in the workplace, age-friendly initiatives, informal work, precarious employment, health information and tobacco control.

Dr. Ugargol has previously served as a member of the working group that conceptualized the National Health Portal (NHP) for India in 2011 under the direction of the National Knowledge Commission. In 2011, he was awarded the ‘Jana Fellowship’ by Karnataka Knowledge. Commission, Government of Karnataka.
