Air India’s newly appointed CMD Campbell Wilson has asked the airline’s Integrated Operations Control Center (IOCC), the “nerve centre” of any carrier, to report directly to him and improve timely performance. The aviation veteran – who has nearly 26 years of experience – said that since he joined Air India, he has seen the airline’s on-time performance “not up to the mark” and “definitely But not at a world-class level. That’s what we aspire to and what our customers expect.” According to data from aviation regulator DGCA, Air India’s on-time performance at four metro airports – Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai – was just 83.1 per cent in June, lower than IndiGo, Vistara and AirAsia India.

The airline’s OTP at these four airports was only 81 percent in May. According to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) data, the OTP of IndiGo, Vistara and AirAsia India in May was 82 per cent, 87.5 per cent and 90.8 per cent respectively. Wilson said in his message that the status quo regarding the OTP is “simply not acceptable”.

“Therefore, I have decided that the IOCC at Safdarjung will henceforth report directly to me. With my authority, they will recommend some amendments in our working methods and regularly update me on the status of implementation. Will update from,” he said. He said the airline will also review its resources, systems and capabilities and make necessary changes to bring its OTP up to the required standard.
