CWG 2022: Sudhir wins gold medal in para powerlifting (Twitter)
Sudhir won the gold medal in the para-powerlifting men’s heavyweight category with a Commonwealth Games record 134.5 points.
India’s Sudhir won gold in the men’s heavyweight para powerlifting event at the Commonwealth Games here on Thursday. Asian Para Games bronze medalist Sudhir lifted 208 kg in his first attempt and increased it to 212 kg in his second attempt to score 134.5 points and break the Games record.

The 27-year-old Sudhir, who is disabled due to the effects of polio, thus opened India’s para-sports medal account at the ongoing CWG. Ikechukwu Christian Obichukwu won the silver medal with 133.6 points, while Mikey Yule bagged the bronze medal with 130.9 points.
Sudhir won the bronze medal at the World Para Powerlifting Asia-Oceania Open Championships in South Korea in June with a best lift of 214 kg in the men’s 88 kg category. Sudhir, who started powerlifting in Sonepat in 2013, has also qualified for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, which was postponed to next year.
