Students claim only a handful of seats for ‘outsiders’ at AIIMS, with most admissions reserved for internal candidates.

Aspirants for medical courses claimed that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has reduced the number of seats for ‘outsiders’ admitted through the entrance exam. The entrance exam for MD, MCH, MS, DM courses – INICET – is conducted twice a year by AIIMS Delhi. The July session exam was held in May. The counseling process has started. Students have claimed that AIIMS entrance candidates are given preference when it comes to admissions through INI CET.

A student said that AIIMS Delhi will offer 31 institutional seats in this session. This means, more than 60 seats in a year as two examination sessions are held. The institute’s batch strength is 72, which is 90 per cent reservation for AIIMS Delhi admission candidates at the institute, a Twitter user said, adding that only 19 per cent of the total seats are available for unreserved category students.

“This is much more than what the new AIIMS students will get just because they have less PG seats. Also, they will lose seats in all other AIIMS except their own. This system is a country. There is also discrimination for KUR and peripheral AIIMS students,” the tweet added.

Reacting to the post, one student wrote, “I don’t understand, why they conduct entrance exam!” while another wrote, “So basically from now on UR for non-AIIMS candidate. No hope? Where are we going with such a reservation system even in India’s prestigious institutes? Such a pathetic state. #inicet”

Meanwhile, AIIMS has already released the counseling process schedule for INI CET 2022. Round 1 choice filling and registration will start from 5th August followed by seat allocation on 16th August. The second round of counseling will start from August 27. The dates for the Open and Spot rounds are yet to be announced.
