A shocking video of a group of students, mostly girls, crying and screaming for no reason at a government school in India has gone viral.
In Raikholi area of Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, India, schoolgirls can be seen sitting in a garden and crying uncontrollably. They nod, pointing to a case of mass hysteria.
The incident has worried parents, teachers and school authorities. A team of medical experts visited the accident site to control the situation.
School head teacher Vimla Devi said News 18 That the first change in behavior was noticed on Tuesday. The incident was repeated on Thursday where the girls were shaking and screaming.
Devi said that she immediately called the parents and a local priest was also called after which the situation was brought under control.
What is mass hysteria?
Mass hysteria occurs when people collectively feel threatened by something real or imagined and experience hallucinations as a result of the fear.
Medically, it is defined as “the prevalence of abnormal behaviors, thoughts and feelings, or common health symptoms among a group of people.” Healthline.
