The planet is home to a large number of species, and we are not familiar with all of them. Sometimes, animals that are unknown to the common man leave their natural habitats and appear in urban areas, creating public interest, amusement and often awe. Something similar happened in New York a few days ago when residents captured a strange animal on the streets, causing panic as well as chaos.
The cat, which resembled a large cat like a cheetah, was spotted roaming the streets of West Islip, on the south shore of Long Island, New York. It was unusual for passers-by to see such an animal walking the streets and it was clear that it had strayed far from its natural habitat. There was also confusion about what exactly the animal was, with some even suggesting that it was dangerous.
The Strong Island Animal Rescue League (SIARL), which obtained a few photos of the feline, warned people about the animal’s whereabouts in a Facebook post. He asked locals to call them if they see a foreign cat and not to chase or engage with it.
The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said, “Protect your children, protect your pets”. Some believed that the cat might have been illegally owned by someone in the neighborhood from which it had escaped.
Many netizens identified the cat as a Siberian lynx after SIARL posted its photos and were surprised to see it so far from its natural habitat among people. He hoped that the animal would be rescued without any harm.
