“Shreyas Iyer in T20 cricket…is weird,” says former India fast bowler

Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad has questioned middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer’s inclusion in India’s first T20I against the West Indies on Friday, which the visitors won by 68 runs.

In the opening match of the T20I series, the Indian team management chose Iyer to play at number three. But Iyer, who was batting at number three in the earlier ODI series, was dismissed for four balls by left-arm fast bowler Obaid McCoy.

“Some selection calls are worth considering with the upcoming World T20 in mind. Shreyas Iyer in T20 cricket is strange when you have Sanju Samson, Hooda and Ishan Kishan in the team. Virat, Rohit and Rahul sure With startups, work needs to be done on getting the balance right,” Prasad wrote on his official Twitter account.

A fan wrote to him that Iyer has done well in the past and is unlucky these days. Prasad responded to the fan saying, “He is good in 50-over cricket. In T20 cricket, there are better players now who can go beyond the word go. Shreyas needs to work hard on his skills for T20. Will be.

Iyer’s inclusion in the first T20I was also questioned by former India batsman and former chairman of the senior selection committee Chris Srikanth, who wanted all-rounder Deepak Hooda at number three instead.

“Where is Hooda? He has done well in T20s, well in ODIs as well. He is the man who should be there. In T20 cricket you have to understand that you have all-rounders. Need. Batting all-rounders, bowling all-rounders, so many all-rounders are better for you,” said Srikanth on series streaming site Fancode.

Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha, who was part of the same panel, tried to defend the move. “Rahul (Dravid) believes that if a player performs for you first, play him and support him. Then you proceed with other options.

Srikanth immediately interrupted Ojha in the middle of his explanation and said, “We don’t want to think of Rahul Dravid.” You have thought. Shade now. do it abi (Don’t want Rahul Dravid’s thinking. Need your reasoning. Give it now).

Ojha then replied, “Huda toh hona (Huda should have been there. Obviously, Huda).

“Boss. Khatam (OK, it’s over),” replied Srikanth.

With a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, India and West Indies will play the next two matches at Basseterre in St Kitts on Monday and Tuesday.
