Shimron Hetmyer recalled by West Indies for T20I series.

Shimron Hetmyer was recalled by the West Indies for the back-to-back Twenty20 series against India and New Zealand on Thursday as the batsmen look to secure a place in the World Cup.

Left-hander Hetmayer was left out of the international set-up due to question marks over his fitness.

The 25-year-old played his last 42 T20I in November last year against Australia in the 2021 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

“We welcome Hetmyer back and it’s good to see him back in West Indies colours,” said lead selector Desmond Haynes.

“He will strengthen the batting group and with his experience and adaptability we have a ‘finisher’ who can add value to the team and win matches and delight the supporters.”

Hetmyer is part of the 16-man squad for the five-match series against India starting on Friday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.

This will be followed by two games in St Kitts and another in Florida as India look to sweep the West Indies 3-0 in the ODI series.
