Sakshi Malik wins gold in women’s wrestling freestyle 62kg at 2022 Commonwealth Games
Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik won the women’s freestyle 62kg event at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 on Friday. She defeated Anna Godinez Gonzalez of Canada in the final.
The 29-year-old beat England’s Kelsey Barnes 10-0 by technical advantage in the quarter-finals and then defeated Cameroon’s Bert Emilion Etienne Ngoule 10-0 by technical advantage in the semi-finals.

Earlier on Friday, wrestling matches at Coventry’s Victoria Park Arena were called off due to safety concerns. The organizing committee of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games has temporarily halted wrestling events to conduct some safety and security exercises, an official said on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the media.
The multi-time Asian Championship winner from Rohtak, Haryana drew on all his valuable experience to bag his third Commonwealth medal.
The veteran wrestler whose success helped change India’s age-old conservative view of women in sports is looking to better her previous CWG performances in 2014 and 2018 where she Won silver and bronze medals respectively.
