Unchanged for another day, petrol and diesel prices on Sunday (July 31) stood at Rs 96.72 and Rs 89.62 per liter respectively. Prices have remained unchanged since May 21 when the central government cut fuel excise duty and petrol prices by Rs 8 per liter and diesel by Rs 6 per litre.
After the central government, many state governments have also reduced value added tax. The Kerala government has reduced the tax on petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2.41 and Rs 1.36 per litre, respectively. The Odisha government has reduced state-imposed taxes on petrol and diesel by Rs 2.23 and Rs 1.36 per liter respectively. Since then, the Maharashtra government has reduced VAT twice. The Rajasthan government has reduced the local tax on petrol by Rs 2.48 per liter and on diesel by Rs 1.16 per litre.
Petrol price in Delhi is Rs 96.72 per liter and diesel retail price is Rs 89.62 per litre. Petrol consumers in Mumbai will pay Rs 106.31 per liter and the retail price of diesel in the financial capital is Rs 94.27 per litre. In Kolkata, consumers will have to pay Rs 106.03 per litre, while diesel will retail at Rs 92.7 on Sunday. Petrol price in Chennai is Rs 102.63 per litre, while diesel retails at Rs 94.24 per litre.
