Anjali, a 21-year-old woman in India’s Bihar province, died last week after she was allegedly forced to drink acid by her husband and in-laws.
The victim’s family said that she was being tortured by her husband and in-laws as they could not afford to pay Rs 2 lakh and a motorcycle as dowry three months ago.
Anjali’s cousin Dharmendra Sahni said she was married on May 2 this year and her in-laws first poured acid on her and then forced her to drink it.
“They also forced Anjali to drink acid and, later, admitted her to a private hospital in Manjhol where she battled for life for a week. After her condition deteriorated on Wednesday, she was shifted to another hospital in Begusarai town.
