New Zealand defeated Netherlands in the first T20I.

New Zealand bowled out Holland for 132 runs and won their T20I by 16 runs on Thursday.

The Hague: New Zealand bowled out Holland for 132 runs to win their T20I by 16 runs on Thursday.

After New Zealand medium pacer Blair Tickner took three wickets in the first four overs, the chasing Dutch felt the pressure to get out and lost wickets regularly.

They were 73-6 in the 14th over and 93-7 after the 16th and were out of the big hitters.

Coming to the crease after seven balls of the innings, Boss de Leyde was the last man of the match with a 53-ball 66 in the last over, which included five fours and two sixes.

D-Lead also took two catches and bowled two relatively cheap overs.

But not as well as Tickner, who claimed 4-27 off 21 balls, and fellow medium pacer Ben Sears, 3-22.

Opener Martin Guptill led New Zealand when he elected to bat first, scoring 45 off 36 balls.

Jimmy Neesham added 32 runs in 17 but they reached 148-7 against Netherlands spinners Tim Pringle, Shareez Ahmed and Tom Cooper.

But it was enough in their second matchup, and first since 2014. The teams will play the second and final T20 on Friday.
