Mumbai Indians player reunites with family nine years after ‘achieving something in life’

New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai Indians cricketer Kumar Kartikeya on Wednesday revealed that he has met his family after nine years and three months and cannot express his feelings to be with his loved ones after a long time.

The 24-year-old took to Twitter to post a picture with his mother to express his happiness.

“Met my family and mom after 9 years and 3 months. Unable to express my feelings,” Karthikeya wrote alongside the photo.

Notably, Kartikeya had earlier said that he would return home only after becoming something in life. Back in May, he said that he would go home after the completion of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) where he made his debut.

“I haven’t been home since 9 years. I decided to come back home only when I get something in life. My mom and dad used to call me often, but I was determined. Now finally I came. I will come back home after PL. My coach Sanjay sir suggested my name for Madhya Pradesh. In the first year, I came up as a standby player in the U-23 team, and seeing my name in the list made me happy. There was a great sense of relief,” Kartikeya told the daily Jagran.

The bowler made his first-class debut in 2018, bowling traditional left-arm spin, but it wasn’t until Mumbai Indians signed him mid-way through IPL 2022 that he played in a variety of formats. With the switch to left-arm spin bowling, his career hit another gear.

He made his IPL debut on 30 April in MI’s match against Chennai Super Kings at the DY Patil Sports Academy. In four matches, Twitter took five wickets at an economy rate of 7.85.

The IPL may have given Kartikeya recognition, but the peak of his career came in first-class cricket, when he scripted a fairytale, leading Madhya Pradesh to their first Ranji Trophy title with his left-arm spin. What’s the name?

In the final against Mumbai at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, Karthikeya took five wickets, including four in the second innings. He took 32 wickets in the season, second on the wicket-takers’ table. Redball’s success was huge because he proved he was no one-trick pony.
