Minorities persecuted by Pakistan can practice medicine in India. NMC invites applications.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has opened doors for persecuted minorities from Pakistan, who fled the country and entered India on or before December 31, 2014, to practice medicine here. It invites applications from people who have acquired Indian citizenship for permanent registration to practice modern medicine or allopathy.

According to a public notice issued by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UMEB) of NMC on Friday, the shortlisted applicants will be allowed to appear in the examination conducted by the commission or an agency authorized by it. The NMC had constituted a group of experts in June to formulate guidelines for a proposed test to allow medical graduates from persecuted minorities from Pakistan, who have migrated to Indian citizenship, to practice medicine here. According to UMEB, the applicant must have a valid medical qualification and must have practiced medicine in Pakistan before moving to India. The last date for submission of applications is September 5. Applicants are advised to strictly follow the instructions given to fill the online application through the link provided on the NMC website.

The public notice states that the commission will not entertain offline applications. The Commission will scrutinize all applications in consultation with the relevant agencies and departments.

The notice said that “Applicants who pass the examination in India shall be eligible for grant of permanent registration to practice modern medicine or allopathy.”

The NMC notification about the formation of the expert group, issued on June 20, read: “It is said that the Ministry of Health through its comprehensive efforts decided that the appropriate guidelines to implement the decision on the proposed arrangements. Letters or regulations may be made.Examination under the direct supervision of the National Medical Commission to test the knowledge of oppressed minorities immigrating from Pakistan about modern medicine and to grant permanent registration to practice medicine in India.
