Manchester United ready to make bid for Lazio midfielder Serge Mlincoc-Cevic – report

Erik ten Hague appears to have failed to land his top target Frankie de Jong in the summer transfer window but the Dutch manager has decided on a replacement for Manchester United.

The Premier League club are reportedly ready to make an offer for Lazio midfielder Serge Milnekocic-Civic. Manchester United are understood to be determined to sign Milenkovic-Civic to bolster their midfield.

Manchester United are preparing a £42 million offer for the Serbian footballer, according to Italian newspaper Messagero. However, it is believed that the Serie A club will not accept the offer as they are looking for a fee of around £59 million.

The report further claims that Milinkovic-Savic’s agent expects an offer from the Red Devils that Lazio will not turn down until early August.

It’s no secret that Manchester United are in dire need of a top-class midfielder ahead of next season. Additionally, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic left Old Trafford at the end of last season. In such a situation, Den Haag needs to sign a midfielder to form a compact midfield.

Milinkovic-Savic joined Italian club Lazio from Genk ahead of the 2015–16 season. The 27-year-old midfielder has made 294 appearances for Lazio and scored 58 goals. In the recently concluded Serie A, he scored 11 goals and provided the same number of assists. On the international circuit, Savic has donned the Serbian jersey 34 times and found the back of the net six times.

Manchester United emerged as a possible new destination for Frenkie de Jong earlier this month. However, it was later understood that the Dutch midfielder did not want to leave the Catalan giants. Barcelona coach Xavi was asked about De Jong’s situation during the pre-season tour.

“I’m not here to send messages. I’ve already spoken to Frankie, I value him a lot. He’s a key player, but then the economic situation and financial fair play. He’s also us as a centre-back. Can give a lot,” Xavi said of De Jong, according to SPORTBIBLE.

In the ongoing summer transfer window, Manchester United have so far signed midfielder Christian Eriksen, left-back Tyrrell Malacia and defender Lisandro Martinez.
