Manchester United adamant to keep Cristiano Ronaldo amid showdown talks

Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly told his club Manchester United that he has an offer from a rival team on the table to leave him this summer.

According to The Sun, Ronaldo is desperate to leave Old Trafford and has urged United officials, including Sir Alex Ferguson, to reveal his price tag so his delegation can move forward with negotiations.

However, United are adamant that the Portuguese ace is not for sale at any price. Club officials are determined to keep Ronaldo at Old Trafford for the duration of his contract, which still has a year left.

Despite the fact that The Sun did not specify which team are interested in signing Ronaldo, it seems that Premier League outfit Chelsea will be his preferred destination. The Blues were one of the top clubs primarily linked with Ronaldo, with new owner Todd Bohly keen to sign the superstar.

A return to Sporting Lisbon has already been mooted, while Napoli could offer Ronaldo another stint in the Italian top flight. Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich were also interested in signing the star striker.

Amidst the breakdown, preparations for next season continue without the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. Although Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is looking for a suitable destination, there does not seem to be a potential buyer for the iconic player at the moment. Few clubs would consider such high salary demands for a 37-year-old.

United’s new gaffer Erik ten Hague has been repeatedly questioned about the Ronaldo case and has publicly said he wants to work with the talisman.

“We’re planning Cristiano Ronaldo for the season and that’s it.” I am excited to collaborate with him. Cristiano will not be sold. He is part of our plans, and we all want to succeed together. Ten Hague said in an interview.

Ronaldo missed United’s pre-season tour of Australia and Thailand, citing “personal reasons”. He returned to Carrington on Tuesday to hold showdown talks with his representatives and club officials.
