Bank Holidays in August 2022: The new month of August has begun, and from Monday, August 1, there will be a new set of bank holidays that will come into effect. There are 18 bank holidays in August, and 1 August is a bank holiday. However, it should be noted that many bank holidays are regional and may vary from state to state and bank to bank. Bank holidays in August have come into force as per the list prepared by the Reserve Bank of India, or RBI.

Six of the 18 bank holidays in August are bank holidays. There are 13 regional holidays whereby lenders in certain regions are closed due to opportunities in those specific regions. Adding these two together, we see that there are 19 bank holidays, noting that one of them is on August 13 – the second Saturday of the month. Therefore, this holiday overlaps, leading to 18 bank holidays in August.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) fixes bank holidays every year under three categories, including Negotiable Instruments Act Holiday, Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday and Closure of Bank Accounts. Among these, the highest number of holidays is observed under the category of ‘Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act’. Banks across the country close on August 15, which falls on a Monday this month.
