The brilliant opener KL Rahul issued a statement on social media regarding his absence from the Indian team. Rahul was left out of the Indian squad for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe where he was asked to lead the side. He was also part of the ongoing five-match T20I series against the West Indies but did not travel to the Caribbean with the other players. It has been reported that the star opener had tested positive for COVID-19 due to which he was ruled out of the West Indies tour.
However, the BCCI announced the squad for the Zimbabwe ODI on Saturday night and Rahul was not part of the squad. The 30-year-old released a statement on his fitness on Twitter.

Rahul revealed that he was supposed to regain full fitness for the West Indies tour but he tested positive for Covid-19 which pushed things back for him.

“Guys. I want to clarify a few things about my health and fitness. My surgery in June was a success, and I have started training with the hope of returning to national duty for the teams tour of the West Indies. “Unfortunately, when I was close to returning to full fitness, I tested positive for COVID-19,” Rahul said.
“It naturally pushes things back for a couple of weeks, but my aim is to recover as quickly as possible, and be available for selection as soon as possible. It is the greatest honor to represent the national team, and I can’t wait to be back there. See you soon KLR,” he added.
Rahul has been out of action since the completion of IPL 2022. He was to lead the Indian team in the five-match T20I series against South Africa at home in the month of June. However, he suffered a groin injury in the opening match in Delhi and was ruled out for the entire series.
He recently underwent a hernia operation in Germany and was rested for the ODI series against West Indies but was included in the T20I squad. However, Covid delayed his return to Indian colors and he is now expected to return in the Asian Cup.
