Kia Seltos will now come with 6 airbags for better safety.

Kia India has equipped the Seltos SUV with 6-airbags as a standard safety feature across the variant lineup in the country. As a result of the aforementioned development, the prices of the entry-level trims in the Kia Seltos range have increased by around Rs 30,000. It is now the only SUV in its segment to come with 6-airbags as standard fitment.

Apart from the Seltos, the Carens MPV is another vehicle in Kia’s arsenal in the Indian market that gets 6 airbags with all variants. Kia Seltos prices start at Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base variant while going up to Rs 18.65 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the range-topping trim.

Kia Seltos safety features also include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill Assist Control (HAC), and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

As far as the design, features and mechanical aspects of the SUV are concerned, the South Korean brand has not made any updates. So far, only the top-end variants of Seltos like HTX+, GTX(O), GTX+, and X-Line have 6-airbags but now the base and mid-range grades like HTE, HTK, HTK+, and HTX have 6-airbags. Bags have also been installed.

The Kia Seltos India was launched in August 2019 and most of the entry-level trims were offered with dual front airbags. However, a few months ago in April, it made four airbags standard across the entire SUV range.

The Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MORTH) has made 6 airbags mandatory for every car and SUV from October 1, 2022. Hence, in compliance with the government order, Kia has already made 6 airbags standard in the Seltos variant line. -Top

Standardization of 6-airbags will also improve the Seltos’ global NCAP safety rating when it undergoes retesting. Earlier, when tested by the apex body in November 2020, it was equipped with dual front airbags only and hence received a 3-star safety rating.

Kia has recently unveiled a mid-cycle facelift for the Seltos SUV in global markets which is expected to arrive in India by early 2023.
