KABUL: Daesh claimed responsibility for a deadly explosion in a minority residential area in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Friday, the group said.
Afghan police say at least eight people were killed and 18 injured in the blast. ISIS has said in a statement that 20 people were killed and injured in the attack in western Kabul.
“The explosion took place in a crowded place,” city police spokesman Khalid Zadran said.
A video shared on social media from the site of the alleged blast showed people running to help the injured after the incident.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for recent attacks, particularly on minority communities.
The Daesh affiliate, which has been operating in Afghanistan since 2014, is seen as the country’s most serious security challenge since the Taliban took over in August last year.
