The Indian men’s 4000m pursuit team failed to qualify for the finals at the Commonwealth Games, along with the Indian men’s and women’s sprint teams.

Indian cycling’s Commonwealth Games campaign got off to a disappointing start when all three teams failed to make it to the finals on Friday. The Indian men’s sprint team of Ronaldo Lightonjam, Y Rojit Singh, David Beckham Elktohchungu failed to make it to the medal round, finishing sixth in qualifying with a total time of 44.702 seconds at Lee Valley Velo Park.

They were 2.480 seconds behind first-placed Australia.

The fastest two teams will race for gold while the third and fourth place teams in the qualifying round will compete for bronze.

The women’s sprint team also did no better than the men’s team as they finished seventh in the qualifying round with an overall time of 51.433. The Indian team, comprising Shushikala Agashe, Triasha Paul and Murry Lovett, was 3.592 seconds ahead of the New Zealand team, which clocked 47.841 seconds.

Then, the Indian men’s 4000m pursuit team finished sixth and last in the qualification with a total time of 4:12.865, 23.044 seconds ahead of leaders New Zealand.

The Indian men’s 4000m pursuit team consists of Venkappa Kangalagoti, Dinesh Kumar and Vishwajit Singh.
