When the new console generation kicked off last November, 2K Sports was around with the release of NBA 2K21 that was built for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X - a spin-off from NBA 2K21 that debuted in September on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Stadia and Windows PC and Xbox One. 2K Sports continues that tradition this year with NBA 2K22: If you want all the bells and whistles — all the latest gameplay upgrades, expanded gameplay modes, the WNBA Career mode that debuted last year, and more — you'll have to purchase the new generation copy of the game.
Once again, 2K Sports has set prices accordingly: NBA 2K22 costs $69.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X, a $10 increase over older platforms. If you want to be able to switch between PS4 and PS5, or Xbox One and Xbox Series X, that'll set you back another $10 — it's $79.99 for what the publisher calls the Cross-Gen Digital Bundle.
NBA 2K22: Predictions, Ratings, New Features
During the briefing, a few NBA 2K22 producers gave an overview of the game's top level. Fans will likely expect that the bulk of the new stuff this year will be limited to the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, and while that's not incorrect, Boenisch has sought to allay fears that last-generation gamers are being left behind.
The core gameplay is the beating heart of the sports game, and we got our first taste of what has been improved this year.
In the case of an attack, it is now more skill-based to smash defenders with combos, shoot with precise jumping, plunge into traffic, and keep out of alleys.
In NBA 2K22, players should expect basketball game knowledge and pure stick skills to make the biggest difference in separating the all-time best players from the group.
