Four officers of Municipal Corporation arrested in connection with scam of Rs.200 crores

The accused have been identified as Deepak Thapar, Joint Director of Audit Branch of the civic body, Senior Accounts Officer Vishal Kaushik, Finance Controller Satish Kumar and Senior Accounts Officer Hargalal Phagana.

The Vigilance Bureau has arrested four senior officers of the municipal corporation here in connection with the Rs 200 crore scam.

The accused have been identified as Deepak Thapar, Joint Director of Audit Branch of the civic body, Senior Accounts Officer Vishal Kaushik, Finance Controller Satish Kumar and Senior Accounts Officer Hargalal Phagana. Vishal Kaushik was arrested from Yamuna Nagar while three others were arrested from different places in Faridabad.

The arrested accused were produced in the city court today and we have handed them over to the police on a one-day remand. We are questioning them, said SP Kuldeep Yadav of Vigilance Bureau, Faridabad. According to sources, all the accused were holding important positions in the municipal corporation and used to pass bills without any audit or inspection. Thus, crores of rupees were paid to a contractor without doing any work.

Vigilance has already arrested contractor Satbir, suspended chief engineer Dolatram Bhaskar, JE Deepak and another official Raman Sharma, who have been granted bail by the court. The scam was exposed in May 2020. The four councilors had complained to the then municipal commissioner that the accounts department of the civic body had made payments to various firms of contractor Satbir without doing any work. After the irregularities were found, the municipal commissioner recommended a vigilance probe.
