E-rickshaw driver dies after collision with Mercedes in Noida

The 38-year-old IT professional, who was on his way to work when the accident happened, has been arrested.

An e-rickshaw driver died in Noida when his vehicle collided with a Mercedes car driven by an IT professional, police officials said.

The 29-year-old e-rickshaw driver died near Nithari when the incident took place around 9 am on Friday, officials said. A 38-year-old IT professional, who was on his way to work at the time of the accident, has been arrested, he said.

The incident took place in Sector 20 police station area. A police team reached the spot and the e-rickshaw driver, who was injured in the collision, was rushed to the hospital but did not survive,” said a police spokesperson.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been identified as Anand Ranjan. He is a resident of Sector 25 and was arrested after an FIR was registered against him on the complaint of the family of the deceased,” the spokesman said.

An FIR has been registered under sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death by negligence) and 427 (mischief) of the Indian Penal Code, police said.

Police said they are investigating further and checking CCTV footage to find out whether there was any fault in the two vehicles.
