The Indian women’s cricket team has got a big boost at the Commonwealth Games 2022 as fast bowler Pooja Vastrakar is set to join the squad after recovering from Covid-19. She is believed to have tested negative and will be available for the final group match against Barbados on August 3.
Vastrakar was in quarantine in Bengaluru after testing positive for the virus. An Indian Olympics Association (IOA) official had confirmed that S Meghna and Vastrakar had tested positive, a day after the Indian team left for the Commonwealth Games on Monday.

Earlier on Thursday, Meghana came out of quarantine after a negative Covid test. She had posted a story on her official Instagram account about the boarding pass for her flight to Birmingham, indicating that she was on her way to join the Indian team for the multinational event.
India started their Commonwealth Games 2022 campaign with a 3-wicket defeat against Australia. Renuka Thakur’s devastating spell of 4/18, which came after captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s heroic fifty, went in vain as Ashley Gardner’s unbeaten 52 helped Australia chase down a tough target of 155.
Despite a stellar all-round show, Harmanpreet & Co. failed to cross the finish line. However, they will look to redeem themselves in their next group stage game against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday. The much-anticipated game will witness a full house at Edgbaston as Harmanpreet Kaur and Bisma lead their respective teams at the renowned ground.
A win for either of them means the medal chances will stay alive while the losing team will be on the brink of an early exit from the competition.
