The Birmingham Commonwealth Games kicked off with one of the grandest opening ceremonies in recent memory. A host of celebrities from the city wowed the 30,000 strong crowd at the Alexander Stadium. The cultural spectacle that showcased the rich history of the host city swept the audience off their feet.

The 12-day sporting extravaganza, with participants from 71 countries, will witness some of the highest quality displays of sporting excellence.
The Indian team entered the event promising a strong overall performance. The national contingent bagged 66 medals in the last edition of the CWG in Australia’s Gold Coast.
The unit will be inspired by memories of the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi, where India won 101 medals.
