Indian boxer Lolina Borgohen (70 kg) cruised to a comfortable 5-0 win over Ariana Nicholson in the quarter-finals of the women’s light-middleweight category at the Commonwealth Games here on Saturday.
Olympic bronze medalist Lulina edged out New Zealand medalist Ariana Nicholson in the 70kg event. The Indian used his long reach to good effect as he wore down his opponent, who is 15 years his senior.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Hussamuddin (57kg), the bronze medalist at the last CWG in 2018, defeated South African youngster Amzul Dye by the same margin in the men’s featherweight (57kg) category to advance to the pre-quarterfinals.
Lulina, who was knocked out in the first round at the Gold Coast edition, attacked from the word go, using a combination of punches.
Nicholson, 39, however, prioritized energy conservation.
Lolaina will now face Wales’ Rosie Eccles in the quarter-finals. He had alleged that his coaches were constantly harassed when his personal coach Sandhya Gurung was not allowed inside the games village.
