Patricky “Pitbull” Freire will be the first defender of the Bellator Lightweight Championship in Bellator 283. Promotions announced Tuesday that Big Pitbull’s brother will compete against Sydney Outlaw, the leading contender in the Bellator’s first major card race in Washington.

Puttal vs. Outlaw is scheduled for Friday, July 22 at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington, and will be broadcast live at 10 a.m. ET on showtime.

Patrick (24-10) avenged the loss of a doctor by stopping Peter Coyle for grabbing the empty lightweight title in November. His professional record includes wins over Benson Henderson, Josh Thompson, Roger Horta and Tatsuya Kavajiri. Outlaw (16-4) is 3-1 with Baletter and is alone with former champion Michael Chandler. Oulaw defeated Myles Jury and Adam Piccolotti on the way to the putball.

Former welterweight champion Douglas Lima will face Jason Jackson in a major welterweight bout at the co-host event. In addition, Usman Nurmagomedov is making a comeback against former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s younger cousin, Chris Gonzalez.
