Assam CM termed Jharkhand MLA’s FIR as ‘fake’. The BJP minister shared pictures of Himanta-Jamingal on Twitter.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday hit back at the opposition party over the Bofors scam, terming the FIR against him by a Congress MLA from Jharkhand as ‘fake’. Congress MLA Kumar Jamingal has filed a complaint against Sarma in Jharkhand, claiming that the three party legislators arrested in Bengal with cash worth lakhs of rupees invited him to meet the Assam chief minister and strike a deal. He also offered to go to Guwahati to do it. Topple the JMM-led government in your state.

A senior minister in Sarma’s cabinet, Pejush Hazarika, however, tweeted pictures of the Assam chief minister and Jamingal, claiming that the two were in regular contact and that the Jharkhand MLA’s claims were baseless. “5 days before filing the fabricated FIR, Hon’ble CM Dr. @himantabiswa took him to the residence of Union Coal Minister Mr. @JoshiPralhadji on 26 July 2022 at 9 am to help him. From Trade Union Related matter,” Hazarika tweeted, sharing pictures of Sarma and Jamingal with Joshi.

He asserted that the Jharkhand MLA’s allegation that the three arrested MLAs had lured him was false. Demanding action against Jaimangal, the Assam minister added, “Mr. @KumarJaimangal is regularly meeting HCM Dr. @himantabiswa sahib. He is being accused of cheating against Assam CM and these tribal MLAs. One should face the law to make accusations.”

Sharing his cabinet colleague’s tweet, Sarma wrote, “Fake FIR in #Jharkhand. So-called FIR looks like @INCIndia asked Ottavio Quattrocchi to file a case against Bofors. 64 cr. Members of the Congress-led central government and the Swedish government were implicated in the arms deal scam in the 1980s and 1990s, with Italian businessman Avatrucci as a middleman in the Bofors payment of Rs. But they came out.

Three Congress MLAs Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kuchap and Naman Buxal Kongari were arrested in Bengal on Sunday after huge cash was allegedly seized from a car in which they were traveling. The Congress, which is part of the JMM-led government in Jharkhand, alleged that the BJP was trying to topple the government there by offering its MLA a ministerial post and a bribe of Rs 10 crore.

Jamingal had filed a complaint in Ranchi on Sunday claiming that Kuchap and Buxal Kongari asked him to go to Kolkata and offered him money, while Ansari asked him to attend a meeting with Sarma. Wanted to take from Kolkata to Guwahati. Soon after the FIR was lodged, Sarma told reporters here that Congress leaders have been in touch with him as friends because of his association with the party for over two decades.

Sarma joined the BJP in 2015 and took over as the Chief Minister of Assam in May 2021.
