An explosive device was found outside the family home of a California councilor on Tuesday morning, prompting law enforcement to evacuate the area.
The explosives were planted near the home of San Jose Councilwoman Dave Davis in Willow Glenn and were spotted by a neighbor who reported the “suspicious device.” NBC Bay Area Report.
A San Jose bomb squad responded and evacuated Davis’ family and neighbors. Police said the bomb unit confirmed the device was explosive and removed it from the property by noon without incident.
The city’s lawmaker, who lost the June 7 primary election to the mayor, said he was upset by the incident and hoped the culprit would be caught.
“I must say that I am deeply concerned that someone will threaten to harm me and my family simply because I am an elected official,” Davis said in a statement. “It further undermines our democracy and our ability to attract good people to run for office.”
No arrests have been made and an investigation is under way, police said.
