All India OBC Students Association demands increase in upper age limit for INSPIRE Fellowship.

All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) has asked Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh to provide age relaxation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) category Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Faculty Fellowships equivalent to Scheduled Castes (SC). ), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and women candidates.

The association, took to Twitter to raise their demands. In a tweet he said, “We have requested Shri Jitendra Singh, Minister of Science and Technology of Govt. Inspire of India to give age relaxation for OBCs in faculty fellowships at par with SC, ST and women.

In a letter to Singh, the AIOBCSA wrote, “We are happy that the applications for Inspire Faculty Fellowship 2022 have been notified, but there is injustice in the upper age limit for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category which is is equivalent to General category of 32 years.year In the same notification, upper age relaxation has been given for SC, ST, female candidates (37 years) and Devyangjan (42 years).

The Students’ Association reported that the Department of Science and Technology (DST) has given age relaxation to OBCs in the upper age limit in other advertisements, including, DST SERB- National Post Doctoral Fellowship (N-PDF) – 40 years. DST SERB- Start-up Research Grant (SRG) – 45 years and DST SERB- Teachers Associateship for Research Excellence (SERB-TARE) – 45 years.

Denial of age relaxation for OBCs in faculty fellowships is a serious disadvantage to the communities who are socially and educationally backward, asserts Jitendra Singh, president of AIOBCSA. That they provide age relaxation for OBC candidates.

DST has started registration for INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship Program from 1st July 2022. Candidates can apply for the DST Inspire Fellowship for the academic year 2022 till August 15.
