India’s Anish Kumar Pillai was scheduled to compete in the F44 discus throw final but tested positive for Covid-19.
Para discus thrower Anish Kumar Pillai tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, ruling him out of the Birmingham Games.
Pillai was to compete in the F44 discus throw final.
“He is asymptomatic but has tested COVID positive. The CGF has not cleared his participation because his CT value is high. It is really unfortunate because today was his final,” said one of the Indian squad. A para official told PTI.

Pillai won a bronze medal at the Para-Asian Games in Jakarta four years ago.
Para-events are taking place alongside the able-bodied events at the Commonwealth Games.
Earlier, women’s hockey player Navjot Kaur had to return home after contracting the virus.
Two Indian women cricketers, S Meghna and Pooja Vastrakar, tested positive in India before the Games but have now joined the team in Birmingham.
Devendra Kumar and Devendra Gehlot are the other Indians competing in the discus throw.
