Two workers were killed in a gas leak at a factory in Khardha near Kolkata on Wednesday, police said. He said that the incident took place in a factory located on BT Road in North 24 Parganas district.
Barrackpore Police Commissioner Ajoy Thakur said after visiting the area that carbon monoxide gas is suspected to have leaked in the factory as a result of which two people died and one fell ill. He said that the injured person, whose condition was critical, is undergoing treatment in a hospital.
Police said they are investigating the matter. The incident sparked tension in the area and locals raised concerns about security measures at nearby factories.
