In one of Mumbai’s biggest drug busts in recent times, over 700 kg of mephedrone worth Rs 1,400 crore has been seized by the city police in a raid at a drug manufacturing unit in Nalasopara in Palghar district.

Acting on a specific tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch on Wednesday raided a unit located in Nalasopara (West) and recovered the contraband which was to be supplied to Mumbai and its drug peddlers. was An official said that neighboring areas.
The ANC’s Worli team received input after the arrest of a drug peddler from Govindi, a suburb of Mumbai, in March this year. At that time, 250 grams of mephedrone was recovered from him. Mephedrone, also known as ‘meow meow’ or MD, is a synthetic stimulant and a psychotropic substance banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
He said that the main accused in the case is a post-graduate in organic chemistry, who obtained the formula for making mephedrone through experiments.
Police are investigating the entire supply chain and financial channels of drug traffickers.

Continuing its probe into the supply chain, the Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested another accused and a day later nabbed the main suspect after a raid at his Nalasopara unit. “The ANC team recovered 701.740 kg mephedrone worth Rs 1,403 crore from the accused,” Datta Nalawde, Deputy Commissioner of Police (ANC) said in a press conference. He said that during the investigation, it came to light that the main accused himself was manufacturing prohibited drugs.
Of the total five accused, four were arrested in Mumbai, while one person was arrested in Nalasopara, the official said, adding that the case is being probed from various angles. He said that this is the biggest drug smuggling by the city police in recent times.
